Rainwater Harvesting Project

The Vimukthi Foundation has proudly launched a new rainwater harvesting initiative in collaboration with the Lanka Rainwater Harvesting Program and the Jethavanarama Buddhist Monastery. This impactful project is generously sponsored by the NextWorldNow Community. This collaborative effort is aimed at ensuring a sustainable and reliable water supply for the monastery’s growing community.

In response to increasing water scarcity and irregular rainfall in the region, the project introduces a practical and eco-friendly solution for capturing and storing rainwater to meet the daily needs of residents. With the number of people residing at the monastery on the rise, this system is not only timely but essential.

Rainwater harvesting is a cornerstone of sustainable water management. By utilising this natural resource, the monastery can significantly reduce its dependence on traditional water sources, minimise environmental impact, and foster long-term water security. This initiative also serves as a model for other communities looking to build resilience against climate variability.

The Vimukthi Foundation’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community well-being shines through this impactful project, benefiting not just the monastery but also setting a precedent for sustainable living.
